Ever thought of setting up your own mom and pop style PC vending business? You know, micro-retailing your own brand of netbooks to your local neighborhood consumer base? Well, that dream is now more accessible than ever thanks to a new business model from a company called Guo Bang who are offering DIY netbook kits to
shanzhai aspirants in rural China.
Even in the more isolated towns and cities of China you can get hold of things like RAM and hard disk drives etc but attempting to get hold of boards, coolers, chassis and displays is a bit more tricky, especially if you want it all to fit together neatly like Lego. With phones it's not such a hassle but with netbooks it's a real bind getting the exact components you need, when you need them. Which is why Guo Bang are offering DIY kits that ensure your assembly line keeps ticking over as efficiently as possible.
Take one example, the popular S30 design. A Shanzhai-created set of components that fit together to create a very standard Intel Atom-based ten inch design netbook, retailable for something around two hundred bucks. You can now get yourself an S30 kit that allows you to construct your own; simply add drives, RAM and OS and you're off the races adding your unique logos and packaging to a product you'll probably sell through your own local retail channel.

Here we have the
recently covered HP 5102 netbook; in kit form of course.
