Report points out that Southeast Asia is a smartphone hub http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1858-report-points-out-that-southeast-asia-is-a-smartphone-hub.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1858-report-points-out-that-southeast-asia-is-a-smartphone-hub.html Smartphones in_Southeast_Asia

Based on research compiled by GfK Asia, smartphones have taken over the market for mobile handsets in Southeast Asia. The region's use of smartphones has exploded with two out of every three mobile handset users now carrying a smartphone in his back pocket or in her purse. Last year, one in two handset owners in the area was using a smartphone. In areas like Singapore and Malaysia, these devices are employed by 88% of those carrying a mobile phone. Smartphone use continues to grow in the region. In the first quarter of this year, 7.7 million units were purchased at a cost of USD 2.4 million. GfK Asia says that in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, and Cambodia, growth in smartphone use year over year ranged from 40% to as high as 400%.

Touch only models are becoming a favorite of smartphone users in the area. While making up 47% of smartphone models in use last year, that figure is now up to 71%. Of those smartphones sold in the region during Q1, 35% were equipped with an 8MP camera or higher vs. 12% in 2011's first three months. Certain countries like Cambodia (70%), Singapore (67%) and Malaysia (58%) account for much of the demand for units with mid to high-end camera sensors aboard.

Gerard Tan, Account Director for Digital Technology at GfK Asia, predicted that the stable prices for smartphones in the area, currently USD 309 on average, will help continue to drive the momentum in sales belonging to smartphones in Southeast Asia. Tan says that the country is nowhere near the saturation point and that many people in the area still do not own a mobile phone. He says that this makes the region a great place for smartphone manufacturers to concentrate on.

Philips to launch 7-inch ICS tablets exclusively in China http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1847-philips-to-launch-7-inch-ics-tablets-exclusively-in-china.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1847-philips-to-launch-7-inch-ics-tablets-exclusively-in-china.html philips tablet, philips ICS tablets, Android 4.0 tablet, China only tablet

China-based Shanzhai tablet PC makers have flooded the market with ICS powered tablet PCs, so why should the branded tablet makers be left behind? Consumer electronics giant, Philips will launch its brand new line of 7-inch tablets soon. In addition to being Philips’ first, the tablets will be exceptional in many ways. They will boast Android 4.0 and feature MIPS processors instead of ARM or x86 chips plus they will be China only tablets.

Google Android’s Andy Rubin lauded the Ainol Novo 7 tablet with MIPS processors publicly and assured better MIPS support for future versions of Android. So it’s no surprise that even branded makers are now opting for MIPS architecture.

The Philips tablets are expected to sport display screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixel or 800 x 480 pixels with a support for a range of media codecs including MP4, H.264, and WMV, and 4 to 5 hours of battery life. But the tablets will arrive first in China.

What a Shanzhai Android tablet does to stand out from the compeitition? It loads the latest delicacy of Android. The China Star International Group did the same, their latest 7-inch Q702 tablet sports Ice Cream Sandwich. But ICS is getting quite common these days. So they added svelte waistline to their ICS tablet to spice up the package.

The Q702 tablet is an ultra-thin tablet with a thickness of only 8.5mm. But the sleek shell hasn't stopped makers from loading an entire bunch of wonderful features in this tablet.

Huawei Ascend P1 launched in China http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1840-huawei-ascend-p1-launched-in-china.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1840-huawei-ascend-p1-launched-in-china.html Huawei Ascend_P1_1

The Huawei  Ascend P1 that was announced during the CES in January has finally seen the light of day and has been released in China yesterday. However, the slimmer Huawei Ascend P1 S which was launched along with the Ascend P1 hasn’t yet been released.

The Huawei Ascend P1 is being offered at USD 475 in China and will be reaching Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia by May of this year. Latin America and Europe may receive it in June.

In case you’ve forgotten its specs, the Huawei Ascend P1 is about 7.7 millimeters thick, which makes it one of the slimmest smartphones made to date. It comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with qHD resolution, and an 8-megapixel camera with a backside-illuminated sensor. In terms of software, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich comes installed out of the box.

I don’t know why Huawei doesn’t plan to release the phone in the U.S.

First Intel based smartphone coming this week http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1837-first-intel-based-smartphone-coming-this-week.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1837-first-intel-based-smartphone-coming-this-week.html Lenovo K800_1

Last week, we heard that the Lenovo K800, one of the first Intel-based smartphones that we know of, was slated to be released next month, but now it seems that it may be coming quite a bit earlier, like within the next few days. Okay, it may not be the Lenovo K800, but something with Intel inside is coming.

During the Q1 earnings call for Intel, CEO Paul Otellini revealed that the first Intel-based smartphone would be shipping by the end of the week. He didn't say which phone it would be, but the first three that are expected are the Lenovo K800, the Orange Santa Clara or the Lava Xolo X900, so it must be one of those that's on its way.

All three of the devices are powered by the 1.6GHz Medfield Atom Z2640 processor. All three have relatively respectable specs otherwise with the Lenovo being the best coming shipped with Android 4.0 and a 4.5" 720p screen, and the other two will be running Android 2.3 with 4" 1024x600 screens. Should be interesting to see which will be the first out of the gate, and where we may see it land.

Another sub USD 150 Android ICS tablet, Xtex My Tablet http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1836-another-sub-usd-150-ics-tablet-xtex-my-tablet-.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1836-another-sub-usd-150-ics-tablet-xtex-my-tablet-.html xtex mytablet, xtex ics tablet, $150 Android ICS tablet, $150 ICS tablet,

It's no surprise that Ice Cream Sandwich is the flavor of the year for tablet lovers, but they want to enjoy it without emptying their wallets. Xtex has granted all wishes by introducing a low cost tablet 7-inch tablet powered by Android 4.0 ICS and costing only $150.

While 7-inch Xtex My Tablet has an average 800x480 screen resolution, the other specs are much better such as 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of hard disk space. It also supports external storage up to 32GB with TF card.

The tablet is available in black, white and pink colors. It also has 2MP front camera, HDMI output and mini and standard USB ports.

But Xtex tablet closely resembles another recently announced budget tablet from India, the Zync Z990 tablet. The makers have confirmed that though the outer shell looks same, both have different components.

Xtex’s VP Allen Kiehl said: “Everyone is walking around with a tablet device under their arms. The 10-inch tablet’s become a fashion accessory, like not so long ago when everybody wore cell phones clipped to their belt...”

The Xtex My Tablet supports only Wi-Fi connectivity, but its one of the best affordable tablets in recent times costing $50 less than Amazon Kindle Fire.

Meizu MX will be the first smartphone to sport the quad core Exynos 4412 chip http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1834-meizu-mx-will-be-the-first-smartphone-to-sport-the-quad-core-exynos-4412-chip.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1834-meizu-mx-will-be-the-first-smartphone-to-sport-the-quad-core-exynos-4412-chip.html Meizu MX

The Meizu MX created quite a ripple when it was announced last year. We have been constantly getting updates on the phone ever since. The latest year we hear is that the phone will come with a quad core chip.

The company announced yesterday that the Meizu MX will sport Samsung’s quad-core A9 Exynos CPU and will be available in June this year. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected, which also sports the same chip is expected to be announced on May 3, which means that it will arrive in the markets only in late June or July. This implies that the Meizu MX will be the first phone to carry the Exynos 4412 chip. However, it is still not clear f the SGS3 will carry the same chip or will ship with a more powerful one.

Besides the quad core chipset the Meizu MX has some cool specs like an 8 MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 292ppi display and Android 4.0. It will come in a wide array of pastel colors.

In all probability this phone will not be launched outside of China.

With $250 Samsung Kindle Fire ICS tablet clone coming later this month and Google Nexus tablet gossips gaining momentum, the Chinese rumor mill is at full spin that Apple might also come out with a miniature clone of its iconic iPad soon. The Chinese website NetEase has published a story about the launch of iPad Mini in the third quarter of 2012. The dainty iPad Mini will cost only half of its 10-inch big brother.

The rumor has it that Apple is not targeting the Samsung ICS tablet or Kindle Fire, but the upcoming Windows 8 tablets, which were recently seen at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Beijing. Intel is gearing up to launch two tablet variants - 'pure' 10-inch models and 'hybrid' 11-inch with physical keyboard, both powered by dual core Intel's Atom Z2670 "Clover Trail" processor.

Apple will be ready to ship 6 million units at the time of launch and devices will be made by Foxconn and Pegatron. With a price range between $249 to $299, it might do wonders for the low cost tablet segment.

Android tablets have been pitted against iPad since their inception, but recently the trend is reversed. Now Android tablets are targeting their own family member, the Kindle Fire tablet by Amazon and trying to repeat its success. Nook was first to challenge, followed by Asus’s upcoming Tegra 3 ICS tablet and now even Samsung updates its next Android tablet, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 with ICS and $250 price tag to combat Kindle Fire.

Samsung has updated its 7 and 10-inch Galaxy Tab tablet PCs with better specs and Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The new Tab 2 has a 7-inch screen supporting a resolution of 1024x600pixels. It now has 1GHz dual core processor, 8GB internal storage, microSD card slot, VGA front camera and 3MP back camera. The low cost $250 tab will be available for pre-orders starting next Thursday and reach the stores on April 22.

The 10-inch Tab 2 also got Ice Cream Sandwich in addition to the 1GHz dual core processor, resolution of 1280x800, 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot, VGA front facing camera and 3MP back camera. The $400 tablet will hit the stores only in May.

The $250 tablet seems a great bargain, with better features and ICS for only $50 extra than Amazon Kindle Fire.

LA firm offers an ICS tablet with 3D video watching feature at just USD 157 http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1827-la-firm-offers-an-ics-tablet-with-3d-video-watching-feature-at-just-usd-157.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1827-la-firm-offers-an-ics-tablet-with-3d-video-watching-feature-at-just-usd-157.html eGlide Prism_tablet_1

So you thought it was only the Shanzhai that manufactured tablets with the latest technology and offered them at low prices? Wrong! There are various lesser known brands across the globe that offer great tablets at competitive prices. Ematic is one of them. The company has announced a new 7” tablet with attractive features at just USD 157. Here’s the lowdown on the tablet.

The tablet is called the eGlide Prism and comes with a 7” WVGA display, it comes with 512 MB RAM, 8GB internal storage and 5GB cloud storage. It has Wi-Fi, a front-facing camera and a microSD card slot. It runs Android ICS and comes with 3D red and blue style glasses that allow users to watch 2160p 3D HD videos.

The tablet looks good on the exterior but we don’t know much about its performance. The price tag is very attractive though.

Sleek and stylish ProTab 2 IPS Android 4.0 tablet http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1826-sleek-and-stylish-protab-2-ips-android-40-tablet-.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1826-sleek-and-stylish-protab-2-ips-android-40-tablet-.html ProTab 2 IPS Android 4.0 tablet, Point of View tablet, POV Android tablet, Europe Android 4.0 tablet

Ice Cream Sandwich is one of the most ambitious updates for Android from Google. While tech lovers have been waiting for ICS tablets to come and conquer the world, tablets makers are taking their own sweet time to savor the new Android delicacy. European maker Point of View (POV) has also recently welcomed a new member to its tablet family, a 9.7-inch ProTab 2 IPS tablet with wonderful looks and ICS goodness.

The ProTab 2 IPS tablet has same screen size as iPad, but its 9.7-inch capacitive screen with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and resolution of 1024x768 pixels is of no match to the retina screen of iPad. The tablet however has decent dimensions of 242x189x9mm and a smooth aluminimum back.

ProTab 2 IPS Android 4.0 tablet, Point of View tablet, POV Android tablet, Europe Android 4.0 tablet

The ICS tablet performs well and supports HD multimedia playback thanks to the 1.2GHz Cortex A8 CPU and MALI-400 GPU inside. The tablet also features 1GB of DDR3 memory, 8GB internal storage, and external storage support up to 32GB via microSD card.

The other specs are decent including dual cameras - 2MP back camera and 0.3MP front camera, mini USB port, mini HDMI, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

But it’s priced a little on the higher side costing around $400 (€393) in the European market.

Asus Transformer Pad 300 coming soon with a price tag of USD 379 http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1824-asus-transformer-pad-300-coming-soon-with-a-price-tag-of-usd-379.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1824-asus-transformer-pad-300-coming-soon-with-a-price-tag-of-usd-379.html ASUS Transformer_Pad_300_1

The middle child in the Asus tablet family - the Transformer Pad 300, which we saw at the MWC expo last month - is receiving its first pricing details. According to J&R reps, it will be arriving "in about a week", and cost $379 for the 16GB version, and just $399 for the 32GB one, ain't that great.

Granted, the 300 takes it down a notch with a non-HD screen and a slightly thicker chassis, but the 32GB version is to cost much less than an iPad 2 with the same storage, and will likely fall even further fairly quick if history is any guidance.

Meanwhile, in ASUS' home turf of Taiwan, the company already started selling the MeMO ME171, the cool 7-incher with the built-in stylus. It is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 and retails there for the equivalent of $585.

At CES in January Asus mentioned there will be a quad-core version MeMO ME370T, which will sell for $249 and become the first cheap yet fully functional brand name Android tablet, but these plans have allegedly been scrapped for Google asked Asus to replace the project with its own Nexus tablet.

After being panned by critics worldwide for poor performance, the world's chepeast tablet PC, $35 Aakash is hogging the limelight again. The next generation Aakash is coming in two or three weeks with improved hardware and ICS update, according to Suneet Singh Tuli, the CEO of Canadian electronics manufacturer Datawind, manufacturer of the first generation Aakash.

The second generation Aakash will have a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch screen and 800MHz ARM single core Cortex-A8 processor. It’s an outstanding improvement over the original Aakash, which has resistive screen and 366MHz processor. But Aakash 2 will continue to sport 256MB of RAM and 2GB of internal storage. Wonder how ICS will run on such low memory.

The tablet will ship soon with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Android 4.0 update will be available over-the-air or as a separate PC download in six to eight weeks after shipping.

Tuli said: "The product development is complete and deliveries are expected to start for Aakash 2 in about two or three weeks..."

The tablet will cost the Indian Government $45 and after subsidy it will be priced at $35 like the original Aakash. The government will procure 5 million units for this fiscal year, starting from April 1. Aakash 2 to get more upgrades soon with component prices going down.

Tuli added: "We're confident that by the fall, Cortex A9 dual-core processors will be in the same [price] range as what Cortex A8 is at today…"

Google's tablet to arrive in July this year http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1815-googles-tablet-to-arrive-in-july-this-year.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1815-googles-tablet-to-arrive-in-july-this-year.html Google tablet_1

It’s been a long time since the rumors about Google’s first own branded tablet started and it was previously expected to arrive in May, now we hear that the tablet will be arriving in July this year.

Google has partnered up with the Taiwan company Asus for this venture. They have probably decided to delay the tablet’s release to give time for some last minute tweaks. The other thing that seems to have changed is the tablet’s price, we’d heard that it was going to be priced around USD 200 but now they have decided to price it at USD 249 and this could be due to the Tegra 3 quad-core chip being brought on board. The tablet will come in the Wi-Fi-only version. While rumors are rife that the tablet might run Android Jelly Bean we are not very sure it will, since the model being tested currently runs Android ICS.

We still don’t know what Google will call the tablet; ‘Play’ sounds cool though.

HTC One S knockoff to arrive in China much before the original http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1812-htc-one-s-knockoff-to-arrive-in-china-much-before-the-original.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1812-htc-one-s-knockoff-to-arrive-in-china-much-before-the-original.html HTC One_S_1

The HTC One S was recently launched at the MWC as a mid tier phone in the new One series introduced by the company. The phone got some rave reviews and kept the shutterbugs busy due to its sleek appearance.

This phone is said to run on the Snapdragon S4 processor and run Android ICS out of the box. The only disappointing thing was its price; the phone was tagged at USD 657. However there is good news for all those who are looking to buy the phone  but don’t want to invest a premium on it, a Shenzhen company has announced the launch of its own version of the HTC One S. Knowing the Shanzhai, I think they’ll not disappoint us, as they are the best in this craft. This phone will reach the markets in May and will have a 4.3” QHD screen with a resolution of 960x540 pixel. It will come with Android Gingerbread but can later be updated to ICS. It will have an 8MP rear-facing camera and will be priced at less than USD 200.

As of now the Shanzhai haven’t given a name to the phone but it is sure to have a lot of takers.

Google Nexus tablet leaked in pics? http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1811-google-nexus-tablet-leaked-in-pics-.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/10-tablets/1811-google-nexus-tablet-leaked-in-pics-.html Google nexus tablet, asus tablet, samsung galaxy nexus, google nexus rumors, $199 ICS google tablet

Google sets a new benchmark with its flagship Nexus smartphone each time for future Android smartphones to beat. The rumor of Google bringing the Nexus magic in the tablet arena is doing the rounds from some time and we have seen some really probable candidates for the Nexus crown recently. Now some more pics of rumored Nexus tablet have found a way to the Web, sparking interest among Android enthusiasts.

The tablet featured in the pic is a stunning ultra-slim tablet running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The home screen has striking red wallpaper devoid of any third party app icons, which boosts up its Nexus tablet’s claim. The ICS soft keys, 4:00AM time in the device watch and muted rainbow wallpaper match the attributes of classic Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

There are some qualms as well. The tablet seems too big (10-inch perhaps) to meet the popular rumor of 7-inch Asus-Nexus upcoming tablet. It also sports the old Android Market icon and not the latest Google Play icon.

But the guys from the Android Community pointed out that it could be the production prototype of 7.7-inch Toshiba tablet, which was first shown at CES.

Numerous Android tablets are produced each year in Shenzhen and each tablet has its own unique features. I found a new tablet called the Aoson M19. Here’s the lowdown.

The tablet comes with a 9.7” IPS capacitive screen with a resolution of 1024x768. The tablet runs on the RK 2918 chip with the Cortex A8 core. It has a smooth appearance and the Menu, Home, Return and Power buttons are placed on the side. The tablet is equipped with a GC800 GPU and runs 3D games smoothly. It comes with a 0.3 MP front-facing camera and a 2MP rear-facing camera. The Android OS is upgradeable to ICS. The tablet has a standard and mini USB, HDMI and a SIM card slot. Both Wi-Fi and 3G versions of the tablet are available.

The look and feel of the tablet is really good and has all the makings of a branded tablet.

Huawei's Ascend D Quad XL is not the world's fastest phone after all http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1807-huaweis-ascend-d-quad-xl-is-not-the-worlds-fastest-phone-after-all.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1807-huaweis-ascend-d-quad-xl-is-not-the-worlds-fastest-phone-after-all.html Huawei-Ascend D_Quad_XL_1

There was a lot of talk about Huawei’s Ascend D Quad XL at MWC this year. The Chinese company hailed it as the fastest smartphone in the world. Unfortunately, this declaration by Huawei doesn’t hold true anymore.

Earlier Huawei’s  K3V2 chip had faced a challenge from the quad-core Tegra 3 chip of the Asus Transformer Prime in Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji, and had won the competition hands down. But the chip failed to outdo Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 chip and the phone carrying this chip is a rather surprising Pantech Vega LTE SKY phone. This chip is also expected to power other handsets like the U.S version of the HTC One X.

The phone however still remains to be one of the most powerful handsets, I guess Huawei is already on its way to find a chip that would beat the Snapdragon S4.

VIA8650 tablets are one of the fastest-selling pieces in the Shanzhai tablet market thanks to their cheap price. Consumers are even ready to close the eyes on the horridly slow processor, for such low price. But now they have an alternative, a 7-inch tablet from Shenzhen based Eser. It’s an entry level tablet and doesn’t score great on specs front, but closely matches the alluring price of VIA8650 powered tablets at $51.

The dirt cheap Eser tablet has 7-inch resistive screen supporting a resolution of 800x480. Instead of VIA8650 chip, Eser tablet has A10 processor with Mali400GPU and 2160P video decoding ability. It also has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.

Huawei aims to make it big this year, set to ship 60 billion smartphones http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1803-huawei-aims-to-make-it-big-this-year-set-to-ship-60-billion-smartphones.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1803-huawei-aims-to-make-it-big-this-year-set-to-ship-60-billion-smartphones.html Huawei Richard_Yu_1

It’s true that the smartphone arena is getting bigger and bigger and the competition is getting tougher by the day for the vendors. Many industry insiders think that all of them will not be able to survive the rat race. Huawei devices Chairman, Richard Yu also shares a similar view.

He expressed this in a recent interview with Mobile World Live. He stressed that the smartphone industry was about to undergo a huge change and eventually only three or four of the major vendors would survive, and in order for a company to survive, it had to make its brand known and Huawei would do just that by upping its shipments to 60 million units this year. Huawei also aims to become a 1 billion dollar company soon.

Huawei Ascend D and XL are the two phones that the company is placing its bets on this year. They say it’s always good to aim higher and Huawei is doing the same, hope they’re able to reach their set goals.

Shanda’s rumored smartphone to be world’s cheapest dual-core Android http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1801-shandas-rumored-smartphone-to-be-worlds-cheapest-dual-core-android-.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1801-shandas-rumored-smartphone-to-be-worlds-cheapest-dual-core-android-.html Shanda Android smartphone, world's cheapest smartphone, budget smartphone, shanda dual core smartphone, dual core smartphone

The trend of dual core smartphones started in 2011, but if you believe that dual core smartphone is a prized possession only a few can afford then that’s all going to change soon. Shanda, a famous Chinese company, is gearing up to launch a customized Android smartphone in China dubbed the cheapest dual core smartphone in the world. The rumor has it that the dual core giant will hit the shelves for less than $190.

The leaked specs look fantastic on paper. It is believed to have 1.0 GHz dual-core ARM processor by Texas Instruments in addition to the 1GB RAM and 8GB of external storage via SanDisk Micro-SD card. It will also have 5MP back camera with 720p video shooting functionality and 3MP front camera. It has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and WCDMA 3G connectivity as well.

It’s going to be a giant phone from Shanda with 4.3-inch screen and a resolution as high as 960x540 pixels. The only element missing from this exciting package is the Android ICS as it might turn up with Android 2.3.6 Android Gingerbread and a customized user interface.

Low price and wonderful specs of Shanda’s next smartphone can outstrip Xiaomi M1 and Meizu MX of their title of the most appealing dual core Android smartphones.

Saayi, the Chinese tablet maker has manufactured a new tablet that is in the shape of a butterfly, with the body thick in the centre and thinning down towards the edges. This tablet appears more like a flat screen LCD TV albeit with a small screen.

The tablet has a 7” capacitive screen with the Menu, Return, Search and Volume buttons being placed at the bottom of the screen. The shape of the tablet makes it very easy to carry around. It comes with dual camera and supports flash online videos. It runs Android 4.0.3 and is based on the A10 chip. The standard and Micro USB and HDMI ports are placed at the bottom of the tablet and it has an easy to use UI.

All in all the Dropad Butterfly is an able tablet and the company seems to be aiming to target the younger generation.

Rumors abound about Amazon's three new tablets http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1798-rumors-abound-about-amazons-three-new-tablets.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1798-rumors-abound-about-amazons-three-new-tablets.html amazon-fire-touch-kindle-family

The rumors on this one keep bouncing back and forth with very little consistency, so either Amazon is really good at keeping secret its plans for upcoming Kindle tablets, or is really bad at it, and has to make up for that by leaking false info to confuse us all. Either way, it's working because we have no idea what is going on.

There have been a few reports stating that Amazon would be releasing a 10" Kindle Fire tablet, and also some reports pointing towards an 8.9" Kindle Fire tablet. This time, the report out of Taiwan is claiming that Amazon is preparing 3 new tablets which will be released at some point this year. Word has it that Amazon will release a low-end 7" model with a 1024x600 resolution, a mid-range 7" with a 1280x800 resolution, and a high-end 8.9" tablet with a 1920x1200 resolution.

LGD and Panasonic are said to be the manufacturers of the flat-panel displays for the 7" devices, while Chimei Innolux will supply the 7" touch sensors, and Prime View will supply the 8.9" displays.

We really don't know what to believe at this point, but the one relative constant has been that the larger version Kindle Fire tablet should be out in Q2 of this year, which would mean that we'll get an answer within the next three months.

Low cost tablets to rule the roost in 2016 http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1794-low-cost-tablets-to-rule-the-roost-in-2016.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1794-low-cost-tablets-to-rule-the-roost-in-2016.html Low cost_tablets_1

The iPad started the tablet market and it’s been dominating it ever since that moment, but late last year the small, 7-inch Amazon Kindle Fire made its big entry, lowering the tablet entry point to merely USD 199. And the drop in prices will change the way the tablet market looks by 2016, according to ABI Research who risked looking into the future.

Emerging markets is the key word here as the developed Western countries seem to have less incentives to look into slightly inferior but cheaper tablets. This will mark a change from the way the tablet market looks today, dominated by the iPad and large screen tablets. Actually, 75% of all tablets sold in 2011 had a screen larger than 9 inches.

What makes product like the Amazon Kindle Fire important in that regard, is that unlike underbaked Shanzhai tablets, having a tablet like the Fire or the rumored very affordable Google Nexus Tablet, the software works smoothly and there’s some kind of an app catalog included.

Indian firm Wishtel launches two new budget Android tablets http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1791-indian-firm-wishtel-launches-two-new-budget-android-tablets.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1791-indian-firm-wishtel-launches-two-new-budget-android-tablets.html  Wishtel Ira_tablets_1

Looks like India’s premier budget tablet Aakash has two new competitors. These tablets called the Ira Thing and Ira, were launched recently by the Indian firm Wishtel and are priced at INR 4,000 and 5,500 respectively

Both the tablets have the same specifications except that the Ira Thing has a resistive screen and Ira has a capacitive one. Both tablets have a 7” screen and will run Android Gingerbread and also support the Linux Sugar OS. The tablets come with 4GB inbuilt storage which is expandable upto 32GB through a Micro SD card. Another disappointing fact is that the tablets do not have a rear-facing camera and just come with a 1.3 MP front-facing one. The tablets have Wi-Fi and 3G support. They have some preloaded apps like a Web Browser, Photo viewer, Skype, Gtalk , Notepad and Office and also supports 23 Indian languages.

From the looks of it these tablets have been designed mainly for educational purposes and are bound to do well, considering their humble prices.

The first Google Android store in China is decked up with green interiors and flashy lights and has the cute looking green Android robot all over the place. But wait… what is this glowing Apple logo doing in the Google Android Store? Unfortunately, this happens to one of the fake stores like the internationally famed Kunming Apple Store. In addition to Android phones, the store also deals in iPhones, iPads and Xiaomi phone.

The fake store is located in Zhuhai, a city on the southern coast of Guangdong province and it isn’t anything like the Androidland, the first official Android store by Google in Australia. It also has a catchy tagline “Celebrities Smartphone Experience Store” below the Android robot. The store also flaunts Apple products such as iPhones, iPads and iPods and many other Chinese phone brands like the very famous Xiaomi smartphone.

Google, famous for its open thinking, might not slap a lawsuit against the fake Android store, but will definitely loathe selling Apple products under its name.

HTC Triumph surfaces in China minus all its Social Media features http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1788-htc-triumph-surfaces-in-china-minus-all-its-social-media-features.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1788-htc-triumph-surfaces-in-china-minus-all-its-social-media-features.html HTC-Triumph 1

The Windows Phone 7 has finally arrived in China after a long wait with the HTC Triumph. The phone was launched by Microsoft in Beijing recently, and the company announced that they have partnered with Nokia, Samsung and ZTE as well, and their devices will arrive soon.

A Chinese website posted details about the HTC Triumph and found the phone stripped of its sync services to Twitter and Facebook as both the sites are blocked in China. The disappointing fact is that these apps haven’t been replaced by Sina Weibo or Tencent Weixin, both of which are popular social sites in China.  However, the phone comes with Chinese web service like Baidu, Youku and Qunar pre-installed in it. HTC has also dropped its ‘Tango’ in the Triumph. The XBox Live support has also been hidden in the phone since the gaming network has officially not been launched in China.

We’ve got to wait and watch for how the Chinese receive the phone, and hope the other sellers like Nokia and Samsung don’t repeat HTC’s mistakes.

Zopo ZP200 is an affordable 3D smartphone http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1780-zopo-zp200-is-an-affordable-3d-smartphone.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/tablets-a-gadgets/1-phones/1780-zopo-zp200-is-an-affordable-3d-smartphone.html Zopo ZP_200

We have seen many 3D smartphones come and go but they had very few takers. One of the possible reasons for this could be the high price tags that they came with. The Chinese company Zopo has recently launched a glasses-free 3D Android smartphone called ZP200. This phone is priced at a humble USD 299 and packs many punches.

It has a huge 4.3” capacitive screen with a resolution of 960x540 which brings very sharp 3D images. The Home, Menu, Return and Search buttons are placed on the front and the phone has an elegant look. It comes with dual camera, a front-facing 0.3 MP camera and a rear-facing 8MP camera. This is probably one of the few Shanzhai phones that come with such a high resolution camera. The phone has dul SIM card slots and runs on the MTK MT6575 chip. IT comes preloaded with Android 2.3.6 but the makers promise an ICS update.

This phone is expected to go on sale in mid-April and is sure to be a huge hit, considering the great specs it offers for such less price.

Apple would have mocked that Android rivals are copying the style of iPad, but that hasn’t stopped new iPad lookalikes from coming out. The latest to enter the tablet arena is the Zinglife Z97T tablet. But Zinglife is exclusively launching its 3G Android tablet in India first.

Zinglife’s earlier attempt in the tablet arena was an iPad knockoff, even the latest Z97T tablet has a few similarities. It also has 9.7-inch capacitive screen like iPad, but is loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, though Zinglife claims that Android 4.0 update is in the works.

It is also claimed to be one of the thinnest tablets in the Indian tablet market with its 9.1mm of thickness. The Z97T tablet also has 1GHz processor, HDMI output and a front facing camera. The tablet also supports 3G connectivity via SIM card.

Zinglife’s last tablet was grilled by tech pundits due to its poor build quality, hope things will improve with the new tablet.

China to be the largest smartphone market very soon http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1777-china-to-be-the-largest-smartphone-market-very-soon.html http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/news-a-articles/14-news/1777-china-to-be-the-largest-smartphone-market-very-soon.html

china top_smartphone_market_1

There was news earlier this week that there are more Indian homes with mobile phones than toilets. This shows just how crazy Asians are about mobile phones, a study by the analytics firm IDC has shown that China will soon overtake the U.S and become the leading smartphone market in 2012. The U.S currently holds the top position with a market share of 21.3% but this trend is all set to change.

The study showed that China’s smartphone market share would rise from 18.2% to 20.7% this year. India and Brazil are also seen as emerging markets that will eventually beat the U.K which currently holds the third position with a share of 5.3%. IDC predicted that the U.K will drop to the fifth position by 2016.

The users in the emerging markets use smartphones more for entertainment and business purposes than for mere voice calls, thus making the phones really popular. The growth in smartphone sales in china is seen coming from the lower end smartphones produced by the likes of ZTE, Huawei and Lenovo. The situation is the same in India with the home-grown brands doing better than the international brands. As for Brazil, the sub USD 300 smartphones are doing really well with the mobile phone subscriptions exceeding the country’s population.

With the phenomenal sales in 2011, the tablet wave is showing no signs of receding from India in 2012 as well. The New Year kick started with millions of preorders for BSNL’s recently introduced tablet. The tablet sales will now get another huge boost from country’s first Android CDMA tablet, introduced by Telecom Giant Reliance Communications.

The Reliance CDMA tablet has 7-inch capacitive screen, 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM and up to 32GB storage via microSD card. It also has dual cameras - 2MP rear camera and front camera and complete support for Google Play aka Android Market. The 7-inch Gingerbread tablet is priced aggressively at INR 12,999 or USD 260 and will hit the stores soon.

Sanjay Behl, group head – brand & marketing, Reliance Communications Limited said: “Having redefined the Tab market in the country last year with the launch and roaring success of Reliance 3G Tab, we are now yet again the first to introduce the country’s first CDMA Tab. With the rapid increase in data consumption in India and with Reliance’s superior HSD Network in over 1,000 towns, the launch of the Reliance CDMA Tab is another step to carry forward our mission of Wirefree India.”

Reliance is clubbing CDMA Tab with attractive data offers and goodies such as 1 year free subscription on McAfee Mobile Security, 2 months free subscription on BigFlix+, and Rs 250 worth of calling on Reliance Global Call. It’s a tablet phone so will allow voice calls as well.
