Datawind has become absurdly famous thanks to the hype and excitement around the Indian government’s $35 tablet, Aakash. Amid rumors and controversies, the UK based Datawind has launched two versions of the Ubislate tablet in India. The Huawei  Ascend P1 that was announced during the CES in January has finally seen the light of day and has been released in China yesterday. However, the slimmer Huawei Ascend P1 S which was launched along with the Ascend P1 hasn’t yet been released.

The Huawei Ascend P1 is being offered at USD 475 in China and will be reaching Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia by May of this year. Latin America and Europe may receive it in June.

After being panned by critics worldwide for poor performance, the world's chepeast tablet PC, $35 Aakash is hogging the limelight again. The next generation Aakash is coming in two or three weeks with improved hardware and ICS update, according to Suneet Singh Tuli, the CEO of Canadian electronics manufacturer Datawind, manufacturer of the first generation Aakash.

The second generation Aakash will have a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch screen and 800MHz ARM single core Cortex-A8 processor. It’s an outstanding improvement over the original Aakash, which has resistive screen and 366MHz processor. But Aakash 2 will continue to sport 256MB of RAM and 2GB of internal storage. Wonder how ICS will run on such low memory.

The tablet will ship soon with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Android 4.0 update will be available over-the-air or as a separate PC download in six to eight weeks after shipping.

Tuli said: "The product development is complete and deliveries are expected to start for Aakash 2 in about two or three weeks..."

The tablet will cost the Indian Government $45 and after subsidy it will be priced at $35 like the original Aakash. The government will procure 5 million units for this fiscal year, starting from April 1. Aakash 2 to get more upgrades soon with component prices going down.

Lenovo has extended its famous ThinkPad business laptop brand to tablets last year with sleek and stylish ThinkPad tablets. Now the Chinese PC giant has launched an app store, Lenovo Enterprise App Shop with Android applications aimed at the business users.

The store will boast secure Android tablet apps and will offer app services to large businesses with features such as custom app management, deployment, publication and volume pricing. After months of speculation, Nokia has finally announced a special event on March 28th in China.
