IBM says its going to happen in less than 5 years, I’m not sure about that but I am sure it will happen. Mind reading computers are what’s up for discussion here. If you can turn your thoughts into digital data you can imagine how quickly the cloud infrastructure could be filled to the brim?
In this video they suggest the idea that you could use your mind to control your computer. That’s interesting, but it also means you could control anything that has a computer connected it … your home automation system for example. Lights too bright, you feel cold… just think it and an adjustment is made.

You can train the device so that by thinking a particular thought, an action can take place on your computer. So for example, using Emotiv's software, you can see a cube on your computer screen and think about moving it to the left, and it will.” IBM Reasearch
Taking it a step further, as soon as you accurately turn your thoughts into data what would happen to your blog, social networks or any place where you put your mind to work? What tools would we need to publish, or edit or organize our thoughts?
On the IBM Research page you can see a picture of researcher Kevin Brown sporting an EPOC headset that senses electrical brain impulses. Those type of sensors aren’t common for consumers yet… but you may recall the film Strange Days which does show consumer facing application ideas (and some rather creepy ones at that) for “jacking in” to your brain.
