Apple had a super eventful year in 2011, starting with iPad 2 creating new sales records, followed bynew CEO Cook being panned for no creativity in iPhone 4S and the whole world mourning the demise of iconic Steve Jobs with Apple. It seems like 2011 also ended on a super successful note for Apple with a record quarterly profit of $US13.1 billion and revenues up by 73%. Apple also got its top smartphone maker spot back from Samsung.
After a lean Q3, Apple sold over 37.04 million phones in Q4, 2011, which is 117% more than the last quarter and 128% year on year. The iPhone 4S is now selling in 90 countries. Apple also sold 15.43 million iPads in Q4, but iPod sales fell by 21%.
Apple has lost its top smartphone maker crown to Samsung in Q3, 2011, but emerged as a clear winner in Q4. The most intriguing fact is that the total number of iOS devices sold during the last quarter is 62 million compared to the 60 million Android devices activated in the last quarter as reported by Google.
If you thought Apple had a profitable year in 2011, expect even more in 2012 with the much awaited iPad 3 and iPhone 5 releases.
