Harry McCracken at PC World is the latest to fall victim to old school shanzhai practices, and of course it wasn’t some small Chinese vendor behind all the evil machinations but non other than the Korean consumer electronics behemoth Samsung.

In this recent article McCracken noted with the help of some his readers that there were actors giving fake Galaxy tab user interviews, that fake “Time-like” magazine covers were used to the portray the actors as legit and high profile executives in Samsung presentations, and even worse that the “out of focus” article text in the fake magazine article images was a copied article McCracken himself actually DID write for Time magazine earlier in the year.

Funnily enough people making comments on his article which can be found here didn’t seem very sympathetic, pointing out that it was all just typical marketing hooey, the Mac guy and Santa Claus both don’t really exist either and that its just plain sad that Samsung needs to get fake fans to endorse their products. Considering the massive amount of fandroids out there I’d say they’ve got a point.

Whenever I see some large corporation caught out like this for faking and copying, it warms my heart and makes me think I should run off and start an entire website about tech and shanzai… er … nevermind.
