March 2nd more prestigious and pro-Apple media than us have been invited to “Come see what 2011 will be the year of. It better be an event that focuses on some crazy new software app we’ve never dreamed of if you expect it to be exciting because nothing exhilarating will be announced in the hardware department.

Anticipation of the iPad 2 has been used to balance the avalanche of hype around Android tablets from all the other major brands. Speculation on the number of cameras, processing power and features has been going on for months. Even the recent Thunderbolt theory is not that thrilling… because Thunderbolt thrilled us last week.

“The only thing missing is the rumored mystery connection found on a couple of leaked cases. It’s widely thought after last week’s MacBook Pro refresh, this hole is for a Thunderbolt port as it would effectively replace a USB connection while providing additional functions. March 2nd can’t get here soon enough.”-Source

So the iPad 2 might have a Thunderbolt connection, a faster processor and a few more cameras … and if it does… will that be surprising? Will it cause you a feeling of child-like wonder? Will you feel Apple has stunned you once again? Probably not. Its all been speculated and over analyzed too much to really have an impact.

Apple’s new iPad 2 might be a better tablet than most of its competitors but it’s not really a product that’s bound to excite the way the iPhone of iPad did at launch. It’s bound to be underwhelming.

Apple’s only hope to dazzle is to launch some new software that takes advantage of the iPad in some new revolutionary way. If the invitation is a hint they might just do so with some GPS related app.
