While scanning the various interesting mobile news stories today I’ve come across a few interesting tidbits in the statistics department.
Gang Lu over at Technode.com has put together an interesting English translation of a report comparing Chinese rural and urban mobile user habits.
Despite there are thousands of apps on all sorts of markets, the average number of apps Chinese users use often is 3-5 –Source
That would certainly underline the importance of trying to get your app bundled with the sale of the phone as part of the default set of apps.
There’s a lot of other surprising data about the different habits and market opportunity for both types of users, if you’re interested read it here.
Over at Mobile Magazine they’ve done some quick math on Apple’s reported 15 Billion app download statistics, and figuring that there are presently 200million iOS device users out there …well that is on average… 75 apps a person. Naturally some have downloaded more than others, and some people have multiple devices but its an interesting estimate none the less.
My educated guess analysis of that 75 apps per user number is… that like the Chinese they probably only use often 3-5 of those apps!
