There are a lot of apps that like to open themselves up in the background when you switch on your device. If you’re sick and tired of shutting them down it's time to get yourself an automated task killer. The Automatic Task Killer widget is pretty straight forward in its mission.
The Automatic Task Killer is free on Android Market.
Install the widget as explained in our guide. When you click on it you’ll see a list of the apps running on your device. You can either manually select the apps from the list that should be auto killed or click 'Register all' to select them all at once.
Under Settings you’ll find Power Settings, Display Settings, Notification Settings, Log Settings, Service Settings, Home widget Settings, Killer on Notification Bar, and Advanced Settings.
You can enable or disable these settings.
If you enable 'Vibrate when tapped' your device will vibrate each time the Automatic Task Killer widget is tapped.
Under 'Delay killing' you can postpone when apps are killed after the device starts up. If you’ve got an app that updates when it first comes on then this can be a handy option, allowing time for the update but then stopping the app from running.
If you have 'Detect install' ticked then the widget will automatically detect and index any newly installed or uninstalled app.
Once you’re done with the settings the Automatic task killer will shut down the apps when you turn your screen off or simply click on the home screen widget if you want to do it manually. The home widget will also display the total available memory of your device.
You can edit the settings whenever you want to.
The purpose of a task killer is to speed up your device and save battery life, benefits that users of this app do report of in the comments on Android Market.
