There is an in-built calendar widget in Android, but it has a tiny frame. There are plenty of calendar widgets on the Android Market, and I’ve had a look at quite a few. At the moment I am really liking CalWidget.
CalWidget syncs with your calendar and displays clippings of events and appointments right on the home screen.
Download it from Android Market for free and add it to your home screen using our guide on how to set up a widget. CalWidget is offered in several sizes such as 2×2, 2×3, 2×4, 3×3 and 4x2 depending on how much space you want to allow for your appointments on the home screen.
CalWidget has a neat and tidy interface and it will fetch all your appointments from the calendar apps on your Android device, and also from Google Calendar.
Instead of looking like a calendar, and thereby making the widget really cluttered, it just displays the basic list of appointments, with dates and times, so you don’t have to click on or scroll through the widget to view your events.
CalWidget refreshes the list every hour and removes the events as the times passes. Only the latest ones will be displayed on the top.
You can set reminders and alarms to notify you about different appointments, although with most calendars, this will probably only double-up on alarms you’ve already set up. Having the notifications on the home screen is handy though.
The widget has a huge amount of customization options. You can play around with the layout and change not just color of the widget, background and text, but also the opacity of backgrounds and events so that you can highlight some events or hide a few.
Besides the simple and uncomplicated display of events, I really like the adjustable size, color and opacity options that CalWidget has.
