I share something in common with David Beckham, and Jennifer Aniston. Nope I am not a celebrity, but both of them are crazy about cleanliness, so am I. The cluttered screen of my tablet puts me off, so I neaten it up by transferring app shortcuts to folders.
I install two or three new apps every day on my Android tablet, which ends up crowding the home screen because a shortcut gets created for each of them. There is an option to search through Google search widget, but even then screen looks cluttered.
Android has an excellent alternative for easy searching of apps, which doesn’t make the screen look cluttered. The idea is to create folders and transfer application shortcuts and widgets into them.
Hold a blank area on home screen to open the Add to Home screen dialog box. Tap on Folders and select New Folder to create a folder on the home screen.
Choose the application shortcuts and widgets to be transferred from the home screen. Hold on the icons for a long time so that they elevate from the screen and become draggable. Now drag and drop them to the folder.
I would suggest you set up and transfer similar types of application icons to the same folder, for instance, all the settings icons like Settings, 3G Settings, GPS Settings and Wi-Fi Settings can go in the same folder. All gaming apps can go in a single Gaming folder and eBooks can have their own as well.
It took me a little while to work out how to rename a folder. Open the folder and hold the title bar of the folder for a long time to get the folder rename window. Rename the folder and click ok.
Folders can be deleted by holding on the folder icon until the Recycle Bin appears and then you can drag the folder into the bin.
It’s worth setting this up. If you’ve got 20 icons on your desktop you may be able to categorize them into 4-5 folders instead which not only reduces clutter on the home screen but also makes it easier to find apps.
