I end my day reading an eBook on my Android device, but the super bright screen leaves me with tired eyes. There is an option to adjust the display brightness, but even the lowest brightness is just too bright for me. So I went searching and not surprisingly, found an app that solves the issue, the Screen Filter Android app which can lower the brightness further than the default settings on my device.

This app is free from the Android Market. Tap the Screen Filter icon from the Applications menu to enable the Screen Filter and it will apply a shade over the screen, which acts as a dimmer.

Tap the icon again to come back to the normal brightness. There is also an option in selected Android devices to enable a soft-key backlight.

It’s a little tricky to adjust the brightness level in the Screen Filter. Go to the notification area and tap on the Screen Filter notification. Drag the slider to adjust the brightness level of the app.

This app is great for reading at night and saves battery life at the same time.
