Android app of the day: Checkbook Free

If you’re old enough you might remember the day when people used to keep track of their expenses by writing it all down on the stubs of their checkbook … balancing every penny. This app is basically the same thing.

This app is free on Android Market. It requires Android 1.5 or above. There is a Pro version for around USD 1.99 but the only difference is that it doesn’t have ads and you can set up more than two accounts.

The accounts maintained on this app are virtual accounts and are not connected to your bank in any way. What you do is set them up to mirror your real accounts. Then when you’re out and about and spending, you add your expense and watch your balance go down.

This app is not suitable for business users since you can’t export reports or summaries, but it may be helpful in managing personal finances by keeping a track on the money being spent.
