An office suite is a crucial piece of software and with Google wanting to make sure you feel comfortable with using your Android device for any purpose; they have made sure you can create and share documents on Android tablets using GDocs, the Android version of Google Docs.
You can use GDocs on a smartphone as well, but unless you have a decent sized screen I would have to question how practical that would be. The GDocs app is free on Android Market or you can download it from AppBrain. The app needs Android 1.5 or above.
Install the app and sign in with your Google account username and password.
‘Folders’ is where your documents can be found. You’ll be able to see the whole list of your Google Docs files there and like Gmail, this will of course include any Docs you created and worked on from a desktop PC or laptop. The Docs are connected to your Google account, not a device.
Click ‘Add document’ to create a new doc.
From the list, click the file you want to open.
The GDocs app doesn’t have a feature rich editor or great formatting tools. You can only add and edit the content of a file.
Tap and hold on Doc titles to edit the title, send the file to someone else, upload or download the file, delete the file, etc.
You can sort the files either alphabetically or by date, in ascending or descending order.
In the settings you can change the document orientation, list size, background color and text color.
Select Autosync if you want to automatically sync your docs with Google Docs. This is enabled by default.
If you use Google Docs on a frequent basis this app is for you.
