Eat business lunch at lot? This app’s for you … not for weight loss, for managing your receipts!

It’s hard to keep a track of expenses when you’re travelling. If you’re on business travel, it becomes more important, and also time consuming when you’re supposed to fill an expense report. ProOnGo is an Android finance app that can create an expense report just by taking pictures of receipts.

ProOnGo uploads the photo image to its server for character recognition. It extracts the merchant’s name, expense amount and the date, from the picture. It will then create an entry in the app’s database. 


 
It has options to manually edit each entry in the database so that you can add extra details like who you were with, what category it should be listed under, how you paid, etc. 


 
ProOnGo can create an expense report which you can export to Excel, PDF, CSV, PayServ, XML and Quickbooks formats. This service is free, but if you eat out every day with business partners this won’t be much use since the free service is limited to 5 receipt upload per month. 


 
There are three premium services—USD 0.99/month, USD 2.99/month, and USD 4.99/month. Unlimited expense reports can be created with the USD 2.99/month service, while the other premium services offer conversion of 30 and 50 receipts per month each. The service uses SSL security.

Although there are some standards to the way that receipts are laid out, they do differ. They often include more than one date and more than one total and ProNoGo might not give you a 100% accurate read on every receipt. But what is handy about it is that you can take a photo of the receipt when you get it and then check and fill in the details later. That’s far better than scrunching the receipt up in your pocket after a business dinner and then a few days later finding its remains in the bottom of the clothes dryer, leaving you to piece together the details.
