If you download a lot of stuff to your Android device, like images, apps, videos, tools, etc, you never know, you may end up with a virus. AVG, one of the best known anti-virus solutions for desktops, also has an app version for Android.
Antivirus free and Antivirus Pro are available on Android Market. The Antivirus Pro version includes features like managing spam SMS and reporting scam sites. It costs USD 9.99. But the free version is still worthwhile.
The app scans for viruses, manages apps and backs up your data.
Go to Menu and click Scan Content/Scan Settings/Scan Apps/Scan Media to start scanning.
Once the scanning is done it will show you if there is anything suspicious on your device.
These are the menu items under 'Settings'.
To set scans to run daily, weekly or based on a schedule you set go to 'Security Settings' and then to ‘Update frequency’.
'Tools'includes:
‘FindR’ - can pin point where your lost or stolen device is using GPS.
‘File Scanner Beta’- to scan the device’s SD card.
Go to ‘Task Killer’ if you want to kill an app on your device in on click.
‘App Locker Beta’ is to lock apps with a password.
‘Backup Beta’ is to backup your system settings, app settings and bookmarks.
Plus, you can back up the apps on your device with ‘App Backup Trial’ (which only remains operational for a week with the free version).
Under 'Remote Management' you can set up your device so that the screen locks when you’re not using it, and on the screen a message is shown that gives some information about you in case you lose your device.
So, as you can see, AVG’s Antivirus Free isn’t just a virus protection app, it’s a screen lock, app back-up tool, and task killer. I’ve had AVG Free on my desktop for years and found it to be extremely reliable and easy to use, so it’s great to see a free offering for Android as well.
