A portable Android device can contain more personal details than we care to realize, like private messages, email, photographs, contacts and call logs. Rather than leave all this information freely accessible you can password protect apps that might contain sensitive information, just in case someone at home or the workplace tries to pry into your life by way of your Android phone or tablet.
Smart App Protector app, which is free on the Android Market, (and requires Android 2.0 or up) provides some solutions.

Once you install Smart App Protector you will be required to install its Helper as well. This app will prevent any task killer apps, that you may have installed on your Android device, from stopping Smart App Protector from doing its job.

Before going to the app protector feature of this app, I’d like to first tell you about some of its additional features. We all have apps installed that when we use them, we don’t want the screen timing out and turning off. Add any of these apps to the ‘Screen’ section (as above) and this won’t happen anymore.
There is also an auto-rotation off lock. Any apps you have installed that you don’t want to screen to rotate while you’re using, add them to the ‘Rotation’ list. You could perhaps add Video and Gallery apps to these lists.

The app also features an app manager with which you can open, uninstall, backup and update the apps.
Now, coming to the app protection feature, on tapping the ‘Running’ tab, the app will let you add as many apps as you want to the password protection list. Once you have added the apps to this list, the app will ask for a password each time you try to open any of these now protected apps.

The app lets you personalize the password screen with options to hide instructions, change the theme and wallpapers, etc.

You can choose the type of password you want to assign, and also set a specific time for this app to run on your device, so after the set time, all the apps that are protected on your device will open without the password.
All in all this is a great app to have on your device, just so you have all your personal information protected.
