Android app of the day: Bitdefender Mobile Security

I use my Android smartphone to do some of my official work when I’m not in office, and I also store a lot of personal information on it. S martphone security is becoming a big issue these days; there is a lot of spyware and malware doing the rounds. So I searched the Android Market to see if I could find any worthy apps to secure my Android phone. I found the Bitdefender Mobile Security app quite useful.

Using the Malware Scanner function, you can scan all the apps in your Android tablet or smartphone for malware. You can set the app up to scan the SD card for malware every time it is mounted on the Android device too.

The Security Audit function lists the apps in your Android device that require special permissions, like access to your private data ( such as contacts and messages), or access to the Net or even apps that would send messages or initiate calls. This is a good way to review the security of the apps you have installed.

Next up is the Web Security function; this safeguards the Android device against any viruses or spyware when the device is being used to browse the Net. This is very useful if you use the Web a lot on your Android phone or tablet.

In case of theft, the app offers a feature wherein you can remotely lock your device by logging on to https://my.bitdefender.com. You can even remotely erase all the data on your Android device by going to this site. This would of course require you to be signed up with the Bitdefender website. The app ensures that you open an account at their website when you first download the app to your Android device.

The Event Viewer keeps a log of all the activities that you’ve done on the Bitdefender app.
This is a straightforward, no frills attached security app that helps you keep your Android device guarded against common but very real security threats.
