A new category of apps has been added to the Android Market … ‘Comics’. I was just browsing through the category to see if I could find something interesting. Since Garfield is my favorite comic character, the Fast Garfield Reader app caught my interest. So, here’s the lowdown on the app.
This app is free on the Android Market and requires Android 2.1 or up.

This app includes the full collection of the Garfield comic strips, from the first strip that was published. It was only from this app that I came to know that Garfield is actually 33 years old, and his appearance seems to have changed quite a bit over the years.

If you find it difficult to read the strip at its default size, you can double tap in the centre of the screen to zoom in, and double tap again to zoom out. I found that this worked well on my Android smartphone.

If you want to read a particular strip you can pick it by date, or have the app pick a strip for you by tapping on the ‘Random’ tab.

If a particular release of the comic strip brings a smile to your face and you want to share it with your friends on Facebook or any other social network, you can do so by tapping on the ‘Share’ tab.

You can also save your favorite strips on your Android device’s SD card, so you can read them later, even if you uninstall the app for any reason.
This app adds a fun element to your Android device, and an amusing read to pass the time.
There aren’t many interesting apps in the Comics section of the Android Market so far, unless you read Chinese or Japanese, which is what most of the Comics apps are written in.
