For many Android devices, battery life is an issue, so apps that help extend and monitor battery life are pretty popular. The Battery Saver - PowerDefender app is for managing your battery and other settings.
This app is free on the Android Market and requires Android 1.6 or up.

One of the biggest battery suckers is apps that run in the background even when you’re not using them. So this app has a task killer feature which that kills apps that are running in the background.

When you tap on the ‘Quick Settings’ tab on the top you are taken to a screen with options to set Screen Brightness, Ringer volume, Bluetooth on/off, Screen Timeout, Wi-Fi, GPS and Mobile Data.

In the Brightness option, the app presents a separate screen to change the screen brightness, screen timeout, auto-rotation, etc. The screen brightness and screen timeout are especially important for conserving battery power.

In the Ringer option, the app presents you with options to change system volumes, choose ringtones and access other sound settings, which also have a bearing on your system’s battery.

Similarly, tapping on the Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi options will take you to separate screens to change those settings.

A nifty extra, which is not connected to battery saving at all, is a flashlight that uses the screen light. To turn it on, tap on the tab featuring a picture of a torch on the top of the main screen; pretty handy if you are caught in the dark.

So that you can keep track of how much battery life you have left, the app gives information on how much juice is left in your battery and how much of it has been used up by system settings, or Wi-Fi, the phone being idle, or the display.

With a nod to the fact that people don’t use their phones and tablets in the same way, the app lets you add or remove access to settings from the app’s main screen. Not concerned about having quick access to Wi-Fi for example? Remove it from the main screen and add something else if you like.
The app also displays the space left in your device’s memory and SD card, shown at the top of the main screen, right next to the Flashlight tab.
With so many features, it might be more accurate to classify the Battery Saver - PowerDefender app as a system manager app, but its main intent is clear … it helps you manage settings that impact battery life.
