Security is a big factor when it comes to mobile devices. There is no pre-loaded security software on Android devices, so it’s a good idea to install some. The Norton Mobile Security app is free on the Android Market for a 30 days trial period and it needs Android version 1.6 or above.
Although the Norton Android app is a Beta version, it performs pretty well. When you open the app you need to enter the activation code and tap ‘Submit’.
The security controls have been condensed to three sections in the main window: Set Up Anti-Theft, Anti-Malware, and Call & SMS Blocking.
Set Up Anti-theft is where you create a password which can be used if your device is stolen or lost. You can send a text message with the password to locate, lock or wipe your device.
Anti-Malware will scan all the files on your device and check for malware or spyware. You can schedule a Daily, Weekly or Monthly scan.
Once the scan is completed the app will show you if there any spyware or malware was located.
If you are using the Norton app on amobile, or a tablet with phone cabailities, you can use the Call & SMS Blocking feature to block calls or SMS from selected numbers.
Back at the home page if you choose ‘Activity Log’ from the Menu you can see what actions the app has done on your device. Norton Service instantly checks for malware when you install a new app but the app doesn’t say how much it will cost once the trial period is over.
