Most of the smart phones we cover on this blog tend to have the same the same look and feel as the originals that inspire them, but they also tend to revert to the tried and trusted MTK software stack for it their OS needs. This was the case yesterday when we looked at the latest Blackberry clone. It was Blackberry on the outside but not on the inside, and this is understandably so; the Blackberry OS is a proprietary piece of software that will remain exclusive to Blackberry and forever out of reach for the shanhzai.
This is not the case here with the Hero clone which is of course loaded with Google's Android platform. Android is based on the Linux kernel and is developed by the Open Handset Alliance and licensed under the Open Source GPL v2 license. While this means it's free for shanzhai manufacturers to use it's actually not as easy to deploy as you might first expect. Android is designed to work on the ARM processors that power our cell phones, but there are many other pieces to the puzzle that are needed to make it work. In fact it takes a great deal of customization within the OS to get it implemented on any given ARM SOC, indeed these SOCs or System on Chips are seldom ever the same.
I'm assuming then that the TigerG3 and its Google Android OS is either the product of some really hard work to implement Android, or it uses the exact same processor platform that the original HTC Hero does. My money is on the latter scenario. But hey, if you have any insight, please chip in with a comment.
I wasn't a huge fan of the HTC Dream when it first arrived though overall they do make attrctive handsets. Android too was not quite the finished the artcile it is fast becoming with the release of cupcake. For the price, it's hard to find fault with the TigerG3. Looks solid. Where do I queue?

I strongly doubt its got Android at this stage on it. I'm pretty sure Mediatek who makes the platform hasn't officially finished porting Android yet or we would have heard more about it.

It is really nice to find such good info on cloned phones. Thanks for all the info.
Currently I'm testing Two Tiger G3 one is in Miami Beach FL US and the second started the “World Tour”
Just landed in Brazil for field test SIM,TV,Radio WI-FI. Looking forward the feedback from my
contact.
Now back to Miami Beach FL, so far out of the box was easy and perfect, what I did already is shot
pictures all the available sizes. Very acceptable for the 1.3 G camera on the back. Also shot some
pictures from moving car taught the windshield picture of the car approximately 35mph (50Km.h) more or less.
Same good result for the camera is in this phone. Re sized high resolution photos to the phone specs
240X400 and uploaded to 8GB Micro HCSD card. The result look more than perfect on the phone.
Downloaded video from the net converted to MPG4 and 3GP2 and down to the micro card and up to the phone screen. MPG4 look better quality to me.
Set up the alarm to FM radio and started to playing the Video on the phone full screen.
The alarm on the right time popped upon the screen and pause the video the video, also watched live OTA analog local TV then called myself from the house phone same good result.
Continuing testing the phone working whit a good reseller hopping to do a big marketing of this phone
My question is here is this Tiger G3 Hero clone is really only 900/1800 Mhz ?
Most of everybody advertise as quad band 800/1800/900/1900 Mhz.
According to some specs there is a Asian Pacific edition with 850/900/1900Mhz.
Is there any real quad band of this model out on the market?
Hopping this helping for everybody my website is under construction for this particular subject.
If is there any interest I will continua my feedback of this G3 as I progress and get info from Brazil.
Good or bad,the real reason I do it to get the real picture inside and outside be fore recommend it.
