![]() For the last few months the shanzhai guys have concentrated on a couple of models of netbook that have proved very popular with consumers – the classic S30 and 12” Apple Macbook Air clones. With both these models having spent a fair amount of time in the market, we’ve seen steady improvements in design and quality, to the point that the devices coming out now, are very stable, reliable and affordable. This one here – particularly good-looking in matte black – is representative of the type of top quality product that we’re seeing more and more of from the Shanzhai manufacturers. The HY102 from Shenzhen Huayi Computer has the thin styling and sleek curves of the Macbook Air, but as you’d expect from something that costs only USD 336, doesn’t pack quite the processing punch.
![]() It sports the newer Intel Atom N280 (as opposed to the N270 we’re used to seeing) clocked at 1.66GHz, has 1GB DDR2 RAM, a 160GB HDD, and a 1366x768 screen resolution on its 12.1” LCD display. Total weight is 1.3kg. ![]() As with the other Macbook Air clones we’ve seen, the ports are largely hidden away on the underside of the chassis, giving a very tidy look. Interestingly, there’s also a mini HDMI slot, which is nice although you’d have to wonder at the Intel platform's ability to pump out HD content. Western Opportunity Analysis: From comments on past Apple Mac clones we’ve posted, we know people are very interested in these type of devices in the West, with many looking to put versions of Apple’s OS X on them. There seems little doubt that this would sell very well if it found its way into Western markets. ![]() Conclusions: Fantastic looking device. Top quality at a great price.
