In our “Freaky Friday” column we step outside of our tech boundaries once a week and bring you some of the more flamboyant examples of shanzhai culture!



Here are some examples of extreme of Eco-conscious. The idea is that we should we should try to reuse absolutely everything, not least of all the used boxes and cartons that we invariably accumulate, has really resonated with a restaurant owner in Central Taiwan. Packaging, packaging, packaging! Everything we buy today comes packaged to the hilt. How do you deal with these boxes and cartons? Throw them away? Or refit to use for other purpose? In the city of Taichung, Taiwan you’ll find an environmental-friendly themed restaurant where everything including dining room furniture, bookcases, sofas, chairs and even dining tables are made out of recycled cardboard. Even though it is essentially just thick paper, these cartons are firmly made an can apparently withstand the rigors of daily restaurant use, In addition to the restaurant’s furniture, the owner also displays a lot paper-made artworks such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Eiffel Tower. We asked the staffs what happens if it rains. The answer is: boss will make a new one!
