Just when you thought the world had quite probably seen enough tablets PCs for at least another month, Huawei hits us up with a neat little number running Android. It's known as the SmaKit S7 and as you can see from the pics, it's one cool looking gadget; has a 7 inch screen and features a HDMI port and suppprt for video at resolutions of up to 720p. Any takers?
It seems that the iPad has truly re-ignited the tablet form factor to the extent that you're going to feel out of place if you are a manufacturer and you haven't launched or said you intend to launch a tablet device. It's pleasing however that we haven't begun talking about 'Pads'. Conversations that start..."I wish I had a really giant pad that could do flash...' have yet to happen. The Huawei is a tablet PC, even though it runs Google's Android on what must surely be an ARM platform.
One thing is certain however, consumers are going to have a lot of choices when they finally get around to dipping their toe in the tablet sea that has suddenly sprung up around them. The oddly named Smakit S7 (please... no more euphemisms relating to smakin' the pad...) has two USB 2.0 ports, a mic and speakers - putting it ahead of the Apple iPad in terms of raw connectivity. No other details regarding memory, storage, processor platform or battery life have been dug up yet but we do know about the 800 x 480 pixel, 7 inch screen.
