Tegra-based Mobinnova Elan price announced

Back in June we got our first look at the Mobinnova élan, an 8.9” NVIDIA Tegra-powered machine. It was debuted at this year’s Computex event and looked good in demos (click here for a video). But that’s the last we’ve heard of it until now. At the “Eye Opener NVIDIA Visual Tour” (translated directly from Chinese) in Beijing yesterday, digi.163.com again caught up with the Mobinnova élan.

Apart from the new product pics and demo from NVIDIA, there isn’t much new to report. It still demos very impressively and looks set to shake up the Smartbook market when it finally starts selling.

One thing that was confirmed was the price, which comes in at a very competitive USD299.

A quick recap of the specs, courtesy of Mobinnova presser:

• 5-10 hours of continuous HD video playback on a single charge (dependent on screen usage).
• Up to 24 days of continuous audio playback on a single charge (if screen not in use while listening to audio).

Western Opportunity Analysis:

At USD299 and offering the multimedia feature set and battery life that comes with the Tegra platform, this device is sure to make a splash when it finally hits Western markets. As yet, no word on just when that will be though.

Conclusions:

This device seems to be taking its time getting to market. I won’t speculate on whether that’s a Mobinnova or NVIDIA issue, but with detailed specs for the device still yet to be settled according to NVIDIA event reps, it doesn’t seem to be a lot further down the track than it was back in June.
